True to the spirit of the challenge, I’m sticking as close to basics as possible: I’m opting not to use my flats with pockets, and I am not using a specific overnight diaper.
What am I using?
- approx 30 cotton flat diapers, purchased new or used by me
- 2 Rumparooz one-size covers
- 1 Blueberry Coveralls one-size cover
- 1 medium Bummis SWW
- 1 Bummis Super Brite
- 1 pair of wool shorties (handknit by me)
- 1 Snappi
- fleece liners, made from scrap fleece
- Nellie’s detergent
- homemade Hillbilly washing machine
I don’t expect to use the Bummis covers much (our 2yr old LOVES opening velcro), but figured I should add them to be fair. I could get away with just the 3 OS covers quite easily. I also don’t anticipate having more than 12 of the flats dirty at any given time, but am listing them all anyway. The fleece liners are taking the place of my very-much beloved GroVia flushable liners, and were what I started out using as diaper liners 10 years ago. The dirty diapers are being stored in a wet bag until washing.
I have three boys, so we don’t have a diaper sprayer in our bathroom. I’ll be using the “let it sit, then shake it off” method with the fleece liners.
For overnight, I’m doubling up the flats — folding one thick and narrow and laying a wider, thinner folded flat on top. This has worked great the last two nights, so I’ll continue doing this the next few nights. Two OsoCozy flats can absorb 330ml, as already shown by my absorbancy testing, which is on par with the bamboo diapers (minus extra boosters) that I would normally use.
I find it interesting, looking over what I am using this week, and seeing just how much more I could simplify the stash. This has been an interesting exercise so far — I look forward to what today will bring!
