It’s A Real Baby!

Sorry to keep you all in suspense, but I had a good ultrasound (for the most part). There’s a real live baby in there, with a real live beating heart. Yay!

That said, I’m still not totally stress-free about this whole pregnancy thing. The baby measures 9 days behind “dates” — I typically ovulate late, so this isn’t necessarily “abnormal” — but has a good strong heartbeat. I will feel better when this u/s is followed up with the midwives and I can see that growth is remaining consistent, though. My EDD based on gestational age is May 18, 2010.

Well, What Now?

One more day before the kids are set free for summer. One more day before I actually have to have plans (and, oh, I have plans.. but they’re not entirely organized yet). One more day to make sure we have all the phone numbers and contact details to keep the boys in touch with their friends over the summer. One more day.

Fragments

Another point form post, as I’m feeling a bit disjointed as I get back to routines — despite being more relaxed than I’ve been in months:

  • I’ve a review coming up in the next week for my totally awesome new toothbrush. I love it. I mean I really love it. It’s awesome. It’s the electric toothbrush for toothbrushing dummies and kids. It rocks. Look for coupons (’tis a bit pricey) and get one — you won’t be sorry!

Point Form
  • Yay! for a potentially kinder and gentler US of A. I wish this change followed through to supporting women’s and homosexuals’ rights, but I guess I’ll have to wait for the next election and cross my fingers for better news.
  • My operation follow-up went well. Everything is healing the way it should. My list of things I don’t like hearing doctors say now includes “Oh yes! I can’t wait to tell you about what we found! Your operation was so interesting!” Apparently having endo “freckles” all over my bladder is interesting — though I will admit hearing about the technique she used to get rid of them was pretty cool. My endo has been graded as high stage II / low stage III. There *was* a cyst to be removed, but it burst during the operation when handling my ovary. Strangely, this is better than having it surgically removed, as this was on the side where I had the partial oophorectomy in 2001. My best chance in getting pregnant would be in the next year, so I think if it doesn’t happen by then I’m going to declare my uterus closed for business and look at more permanent solutions for the endo trouble.
  • I’ve been doing a lot of gardening. If anyone wants some rosebushes or raspberries to stick in the ground before winter, this is likely the last week to nab them from me. I’ve got a lot so (please) be greedy and take them off my hands. I also have a bucket full of rooted pieces of corkscrew willow, if trees are more your thing. (more…)

We Start All Over Again

The school year has begun. Tuesday was #1’s first day back — he was quite nervous about it and had a good deal of trouble sleeping the night before. Things seemed under control, though, once we hit the schoolyard and found some of his friends. He’s in Grade 1 now and he likes to use this to emphasize things he says.

#2 doesn’t start until this coming week. He will miss the first day due to a Very! Exciting! triptothedentistfororalsurgery. I’m a bit nervous about that, but it will be good to have it all sorted out. I am completely amazed that his tooth hasn’t bothered him at all this summer. By rights, it should be excruciatingly painful.
