We have a follow-up ultrasound today to check out a bunch of things that have been eating away at my brain for the past couple of months. So, of course, I’ve been sleeping like crap and fretting over every little twinge for about the same period of time.

It’s frustrating. As much as I tell myself that the baby will be fine, I’ll be fine, and (yay!) we might get to see if this will be a boy or a girl, my brain just wants to obsess about the “what if’s” and keep me up at night. I’m a planner and this feeling of emotional limbo is really making it hard to get motivated to get ready for May. About the only thing I’ve really gotten ready so far is an amazing stash of birth-18lb cloth diapers, covers, and a few new handknit-by-me wool covers.

Today is the big day – the 18wk ultrasound where we could potentially find out if we’re expecting a boy or a girl!

I’m nervous, I’m excited, and I’m secretly glad that no one wanted to wait until Xmas morning to find out. Whose lame-O idea was it anyway to put it in an envelope so we could wait 9 days to find out? (Oh yeah, mine. Never mind…)

Okay, I admit I’ve been a terrible blogger lately — I’m sure I’ve excuses, generally do, but the truth is I was busy worrying about Swine Flu, what my follow-up ultrasound would show, dealing with two(!) different colds, building a robot dragon costume for #2 and trying to get my ass in gear for the craft fair I’m in on November 21st.

Sorry to keep you all in suspense, but I had a good ultrasound (for the most part). There’s a real live baby in there, with a real live beating heart. Yay!

That said, I’m still not totally stress-free about this whole pregnancy thing. The baby measures 9 days behind “dates” — I typically ovulate late, so this isn’t necessarily “abnormal” — but has a good strong heartbeat. I will feel better when this u/s is followed up with the midwives and I can see that growth is remaining consistent, though. My EDD based on gestational age is May 18, 2010.
